Gambling in Ennis

It is almost Super Bowl time and that means its time to gamble in the city of Ennis, Texas with the Betik Family.

Ennis is a small town in Texas but it is definitely a fun town. Every year the week before the Big Game, a guy named Happin' Jack puts together a huge party for people who would like to participate in a bet or two. The way the game is set up is kind of like where people try to guess which square a chicken is going to pee on. A huge square is made and within that square are a bunch of other squares that people can bet on.

Each square is worth $ 500 for the smaller betters and then there is a separate game for the high rollers. Each square for them is worth $1,000 each. If a person won with the $ 500 square, they would win $5,000 and if a person won with the $1,000 game, they would win $25,000. There were a 100 squares in each game and they were all taken up before the night even started.

Another part of this yearly event was the atmosphere. I definitely had a country feeling to it because, well they had a country band playing and alot of people were in their best western wear and biker gear. It kind of reminded me of a George Straight music video from the 90s and an episode of Full Throttle.

Another thing that Happin' Jack knows how to do is to cook. For food, he had brisket, pulled pork, fresh jumbo shrimp, and fried catfish as entrees. Then he had to the normal snack food such as chips, cookies, and cheese balls. But no one could forget the free open bar that he provided to everyone. For this reason, I immediately became best friends with Happin' Jack, who is still a bad ass at the age of 75.

After a couple of hours of free food and beer, it was time to call it a night and head to Downtown Fort Worth to meet some friends, have a couple of drinks and call it night. And that is exactly what we did. I am just hoping that all of that free beer we drank with Happin' Jack will give us the edge that we need to win some money.
